Pier59 Studios' Christina Neault helping out at NASDAQ.

OVER AND OUT: A handful of designers had one last commitment Friday afternoon, ringing the closing bell at Nasdaq to officially mark the end of New York Fashion Week.

Mathieu Mirano, Zang Toi and Novis’ Gillian and Jordana Warmflash joined Pier59 Studios’ Christina Neault for the finale at Nasdaq’s Times Square location. None of the designers run publicly traded brands but New York Fashion Week is still big business in New York City. As highlighted by a report issued by the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee and the New York City Economic Development Corp., the biannual event held in February and September generates $887 million in total economic impact annually, including $547 million in direct visitor spending. That tally outpaced three New York-based major sporting events in 2014 — the U.S. Open, the 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., and the New York City Marathon.
