NIKE BOOSTS SCHOOLS: In the wake of Monday’s bomb attacks in Boston, Nike postponed a press conference scheduled for Tuesday morning to unveil an initiative to benefit public schools in New York City and New Jersey. Slated to appear at the media event at the Nike store in Manhattan’s Flatiron District were tennis great John McEnroe, Darrelle Revis of the New York Jets and Carli Lloyd of the U.S. women’s national soccer team. The new initiative will be aimed at restoring access to physical fitness activities in schools still impacted by Hurricane Sandy. “Nike is deeply saddened by [the] events at the Boston Marathon and our sympathies go out to those impacted,” said the company.

Last November, Nike donated close to $2 million as part of its Hurricane Sandy relief efforts and in February it pledged $50 million to bolster First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move! Active Schools” program to promote physical fitness in children.
