ON THE ROAD: Nina Griscom is taking her handbags on a short retail tour, and among the first stops was Stanley Korshak in Dallas. Her pal Lisa Fine and social connector Kimberly Schlegel Whitman co-hosted a late-afternoon rosé Champagne reception and trunk show last week. Whitman selected a grey leather zip clutch. Her mother, Myrna Schlegel, chose a similar style in burgundy hair calf but was dismayed that she couldn’t take it home.
“I think this is the first time my mother ever ordered something,” Whitman told Griscom with a giggle. “She’s an instant gratification girl.”
The year-old business, Nina Griscom for GiGi New York, is growing quite nicely via her own website plus GiGi’s e-commerce and store in Southampton, N.Y., Griscom said.
“I’m just getting into sort of the wholesale aspect of the business now,” Griscom said, citing new accounts with Korshak, Jamie Inc. in Nashville, and Rodeo in Jackson Hole, Wyo.
She pointed out that Graphic Image, the family-owned parent of GiGi, manufactures the leathergoods in Melville, N.Y.
“They do superb work – and this way I can go into the factory and be hands on,” Griscom said. “It’s not that I’m just putting my name on these and checking in twice a year. I am working really hard.”
