LONDON — Nine young designers have been named recipients of the NewGen sponsorship for spring-summer 2014.

J.JS Lee, Lucas Nascimento, Marques’ Almeida, Simone Rocha and Sister by Sibling will receive support to hold catwalk shows. Meanwhile, 1205, Nasir Mazhar and Sophia Webster are to stage presentations, and Liam Fahy will be sponsored to appear within the exhibition space at Somerset House here.

The initiative, which is sponsored by Topshop, is the British Fashion Council’s (BFC) scheme to support the best emerging talents whose ambition is to build global, high-end fashion brands for the future. Recipients were chosen by a committee, chaired by Sarah Mower.

As a part of the prize, the committee will form mentoring support groups for the designers, the BFC will deliver a series of focused seminars and one-to-one workshops, and Topshop will grant access to its team’s knowledge on aspects of business.

Previous NewGen winners include Alexander McQueen, Antonio Berardi, Boudicca, Christopher Kane, Erdem, Jonathan Saunders, Julien Macdonald, Marios Schwab, Mary Katrantzou, Matthew Williamson, Meadham Kirchhoff, Michael van der Ham, Peter Pilotto and Richard Nicoll.
