NO. 21 ENTERS RETAIL: No. 21, the Italian women’s and men’s fashion label founded by designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua and produced under license by Gilmar, is opening its first store, which will be located in Tokyo’s prestigious Omotesando district. The boutique is slated to open on Thursday.

The 1,830-square-foot space, which will carry the brand’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections, was designed by architect Hannes Peer, who created an eclectic atmosphere by mixing contrasting materials and styles.

“I’m very satisfied with the opening of my first No. 21 boutique. It’s an extremely important result reflecting the growth of the brand,” Dell’Acqua said. “Japan has always been one of the biggest markets for No. 21, so it came natural to open the first boutique in Tokyo. People here are strongly passionate about fashion, research and Made in Italy products.”

While the entrance shows a raw, unfinished look with concrete walls and flooring, the beating heart of the store features a black-and-white floor, a polycarbonate ceiling and mirrored displays inspired by the works of contemporary artists Reinhard Mucha and Damien Hirst. Strong references to the latter are in an Art Deco table cut into six slices that are put into glass boxes.
