SAVE THE LAST DANCE: The New York City Ballet revealed the designers who signed on to create costumes for its annual fall fashion gala. Oscar de la Renta’s Peter Copping, Marques Almeida’s Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida, Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, Adeam’s Hanako Maeda, and Zuhair Murad will all create custom costumes for vignette performances at the company’s September 30 event.

Four of the five performances on this year’s program are the creation of young choreographers. They include: Canadian Robert Binet (who was paired with Adeam), San Francisco Ballet dancer Myles Thatcher (Zuhair Murad), New York City Ballet corps de ballet member Troy Schumacher (Marques Almeida), and NYCB soloist and choreographer-in-residence Justin Peck (Opening Ceremony).

The program also includes the revival of “Thou Swell,” which was choreographed by City Ballet director Peter Martins and has not been performed by the company since 2013. The work’s costumes will be reenvisioned by Peter Copping.

City Ballet began its fall fashion gala in 2012. The event was conceived by actress Sarah Jessica Parker, who serves as co-chair and helps wrangle designers. Past designers include Valentino Garavani, Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton, and Thom Browne.
