Just in time for Memorial Day, Oliver Peoples will open its first pop-up shop in East Hampton at 53 Newtown Lane this weekend. “Our Malibu location does great and we felt East Hampton was the perfect bookend to that. We have a goal to open stores where we believe our customers are and without a doubt, particularly in the summer, the Hamptons is home to many of them,” said Oliver Peoples chief executive officer David Schulte. The space will carry the Summer 2015 collection and a curated selection of exclusive custom frames. Designed by Los Angeles-based architects Marmol Radziner to resemble a gutted art installation, the shop is devoid of any fixtures or clutter. The walls and ceiling are covered with unprimed painter’s canvas and the floor with unfinished plywood. Scenic images will be projected on the back wall in a nod to the brand’s Southern California roots. “For a pop-up, we felt that less was more. To me, there is a relationship to this part of Long Island with art and the idea of a sparse space in this feel felt right. Maybe in fall we will build it out properly,” said Schulte.
