THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: Committed as Hillary Rodham Clinton is to trying to protect elephants from ivory poaching, she wasn’t the one who sprang for the toy tuskers that were given to guests at Oscar de la Renta’s show Tuesday. Each attendee went home with a Wild Republic stuffed elephant and a four-paragraph, save-the-elephants letter signed by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton.

But a Clinton Foundation spokeswoman wanted to set the record straight Wednesday that neither the foundation nor Hillary Clinton “paid for the elephants to be distributed at the fashion show.” In her e-mail, Kamyl Bazbaz wrote, “The elephants were selected and generously provided by Mr. de la Renta.”
