OUT IN TEXAS: Alberta Ferretti premiered her spring collection Stateside at Tootsies in Houston, teaming with American Express and InStyle Magazine for a 42-piece show. More than 300 Amex clients, plus a selection of fashion editors and socialites such as Lynn Wyatt and Becca Cason Thrash, gathered in the luxury boutique for the show. Postshow, InStyle fashion director Hal Rubenstein and Ferretti chatted before the crowd about the immediacy of fashion, dressing for oneself and the balance of being a designer and a businesswoman. In addition to her own label and the lower-priced Philosophy line, Ferretti owns Moschino, Jean Paul Gaultier and Rifat Ozbek.

With Michelle Stein, president of Aeffe USA Inc., by her side translating, Ferretti chatted about her company and how women should view personal style. “I realized to be a success, I needed a foundation and structure. Style was always my focus,” Ferretti said. “Women need to try not to costume themselves, but dress with elegance.”

Ferretti chose a black lace blouse and black pants for the night, but says every woman should have a long chiffon gown in her wardrobe. And of all the popular fashion trends, you will never catch her in leggings. Never.

Ferreti is prepping for her Jan. 13 pre-fall 2012 showing and the Alberta Ferretti Limited Edition Collection in Milan at Via Donizetti. While mum on just who would walk the runway, Ferretti did allude to a mix of “It” girls, celebrities and socialites.
