SPACE INVADERS: New Parisian concept store The Space had its official opening this week. Located among the art galleries of Rue Bonaparte, and with signs reading both “Galerie” and “Boutique” above its windows, the shop marries art with fashion to deliver what its founders call a “more avant-garde experience.”
Julia Van Hagen and Tallulah Rufus-Isaacs, who first met while studying in London, say they bring together their respective backgrounds in art and fashion. Their store offers a mix of up-and-coming designers, including Constance Boutet, and established labels like Vivienne Westwood. Throughout the eclectic space, art pieces for sale are scattered among the merchandise.
The duo opened the shop six months ago in the small atelier that belonged to Rufus-Isaacs’s grandmother, designer and former “It” girl Vicky Tiel, which she herself had received as a gift from lifelong friend and actress Elizabeth Taylor. Van Hagen and Rufus-Isaacs have plans for pop-up stores in Rome in November, and Russia and London next spring, and are also working on a clothing line.
