WORKING STIFFS: Grévin is getting a fashionable makeover.
On Dec. 15, the Paris wax figure museum will unveil its new Grévin Fashion section, featuring life-size models of industry figures including Cara Delevingne, Inès de la Fressange, Coco Rocha and Chantal Thomass.
The venue’s historic baroque interior has been partially remodeled for the occasion with the addition of black-and-white backdrops incorporating photographs and film footage by Ali Mahdavi. The space will feature oversized mirrors and a giant LED screen.
The décor by Dick Walsh and Julien Bertevas evokes a catwalk show where audience members might include Charlie Chaplin or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The wax figures are set off by a lighting scheme designed by Jean-Michel Quesne and Hélène Richard, whose company Skertzò specializes in illusion and trompe-l’oeil.
The makeover is the first stage of a wide-ranging revamp of Grévin Paris. The museum also opened outposts in Montréal in 2013 and in Prague earlier this year.
