PERFECTLY SEXY: Two years after its launch, Los Angeles-based denim label Parker Smith is expanding its reach. “I come from a family of women who wear and have worn a size 14 and above, so I know the challenges they encounter when trying to buy a great fitting pair of jeans,” said founder and chief executive officer Mary Ellen Moschetti on the launch of her new plus-size range. “The fabrics [in the market] are not premium and I felt the fits could be more contemporary and sexy.”
When her stockists, including Zappos, began asking for larger sizes, she knew it was time. The “Perfectly Sexy” capsule collection includes two styles: a high-rise skinny fit and a high-rise straight-leg jean, both offered in varying black and blue washes that range in price from $160 to $187. The styles come in plus-size sizes 14, 16 and 18 and were designed on a plus-size fit model. “It took several fittings, but when our model came out of the dressing area and made this growling tiger noise, I knew then we had the sexy fit we were looking for,” she said, adding that models Georgina Burke and Marquita Pring are both fans. The range is available at parkersmith.com, and Moschetti hopes to launch more washes, colors and styles in upcoming seasons.
