BRIEF ENCOUNTER: Fans queued up for the chance to meet Sir Paul Smith at a book signing Monday at the Publicis Drugstore on Avenue des Champs-Elysées. One awestruck young man shivered after his encounter with the British designer. “It’s the emotion,” he said. Smith took his time posing for photographs in between signing copies of “Paul Smith, Notes,” written by Olivier Wicker and published in French by ARTE Editions and Editions de la Martinière. “What’s nice is the lovely, honest little remarks that you get and the fact that everybody has a story: ‘My husband loves this and he wore this at our wedding,’ or, ‘When I went to university, the first thing I got was a Paul Smith suit,’” Smith said. “That’s what we like — the reality of it all.”
