CRYSTAL TWIST: Guests at the Peter Pilotto show today should pay extra attention to the ears, fingers and throats of models making their way down the catwalk. Designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos will be debuting a seasonal fall-winter 2016 collection of jewelry with Atelier Swarovski that evolved from the designers’ long-standing relationship with the Austrian brand.
Peter Pilotto was the winner of the inaugural Swarovski Collective award last year, and has been part of the Swarovski Collective for the past four seasons. The brand’s Collective program lets designers dip into a sea of Swarovski crystals to be used in their rtw collections.
The jewelry range is called Arbol and features more than 10 styles of rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and a hairpin. Colors are bright and primary, and look like bits of candy in settings both geometric and organic, many inspired by tree branches.
“The designs are both mechanical and organic, function with a natural feel,” said Pilotto, adding that the earrings are like “miniature mobiles.”
He said the designs themselves came from the duo’s embroidery and graphics from past collections. “We looked at how to make them come alive in three dimensions,” he said.
