GETTING BLITZ’D: “I want that bag,” declared Phillip Lim as he gazed through the window of the Joyce Gallery in the Palais Royal at one of his own creations, the 3.1 minute clutch bag, imagined in crocodile, which was the result of the designer’s collaboration with the Blitz project at Lane Crawford.
KIm Bui-Kollar, special projects director for the program that creates unique capsule concepts for the Hong Kong based retailer, said they have a big exotics business and wanted to take a classic and “elevate them, give them a cool, fresh younger attitude.” Exactly what the Lim design ethos is all about. The was the first time the designer had worked in exotics and he thought “they were the purses I would want to steal from my mom.”
The duo imagined three key styles: The Wednesday, The mini Ryder and the clutch he coveted, done in green and black croc, often mixing the two and/or adding in leather. The bags will start selling online as of today and will be sold for a limited time, six weeks, in the Lane Crawford stores, starting on Monday. Asked if he would ever do exotics in his own contemporary priced line, Lim answered, “Never say never. I do what I believe in.”
