ENGLISH BEAT: Before Phoebe English had even sewn the last of the 30,000 glass bugle beads to the sculpture that she’s created for the window at Dover Street Market in London, she had people making enquiries about buying it. “It follows the same values as the collection, but I wanted the window to be more conceptual than just product,” said the 27-year-old Central Saint Martin’s graduate. “It’s more of a textile installation; a huge floating orb of glass and threads.” There’s a symmetry to English mounting her first project for the shop. Dover Street Market was her first stockist, and has sold her creations for the past four seasons. English’s window follows those curated by Simone Rocha, Tim Walker, Chanel, and Lanvin, and will be in situ for two weeks.
