READY, SET, WEAR: French designer Christophe Josse is launching his first ready-to-wear collection, just six months after being awarded the official haute couture seal by the Chambre Syndicale, French fashion’s governing body. Josse will present the line, billed as a pre-spring collection, to buyers in showroom appointments from June 27 to 29, ahead of his couture show on July 4, and said he already had interest from a U.S. department store. “Being a couturier gives me a different positioning and lends credibility to the ready-to-wear line,” said Josse, who will be showing a full collection in a presentation during the ready-to-wear shows in October. Josse previously road-tested the concept with a capsule rtw collection in 2009, but has now found a manufacturer in France to launch the full-fledged line. He declined to say how many couture customers he currently has, but said the house was barely breaking even. “It is a daily battle and that is why ready-to-wear is extremely important in order to guarantee a serene future and to grow,” he said.
