The Dallas chapter of Fashion Group International will present its highest honor to Prabal Gurung on Nov. 13 at Fashion Industry Gallery during its annual Night of Stars gala. FGI Dallas selected Gurung for the Career Achievement in Fashion Award for his designs as well as his efforts to aid the victims of two massive earthquakes this spring in Nepal, where he grew up.
“Not only is Prabal Gurung an influential designer in today’s fashion world; he also has a strong commitment to make a difference in the global community,” said Chuck Steelman, regional director of FGI Dallas and vice president of fashion presentation at Neiman Marcus.
The designer is a cofounder, board member and ambassador at Shikshya Foundation Nepal, which supports education for underprivileged children in Nepal. After the devastating quakes claimed more than 8,500 lives and destroyed an estimated $10 billion in property, Gurung and Shikshya launched a campaign that collected nearly $1 million for medical aid, food, water, temporary housing and rebuilding.
The Night of Stars, which benefits scholarships for fashion and merchandising students, will also feature local honorees to be revealed Aug. 6. Last year FGI Dallas awarded more than $45,000 in cash and prizes.
