A FINE YEAR: Pringle of Scotland has just unveiled the debut collection of its new Japanese diffusion line, Pringle 1815, produced by Sanyo Shokai. Pringle took over part of the British Embassy in Tokyo Wednesday evening to unveil the spring collection, featuring argyle sweaters with neon green and yellow trim, knit blazers, preppy pleated skirts and slim trousers. Prices range from 9,450 yen, or about $118, for a thin gauze scarf to 39,900 yen, or $500, for jackets.

The line draws on the brand’s extensive history while aiming to attract younger, fashion-forward customers. “Japan is a unique marketplace and a very important marketplace for any global brand,” said Douglas Fang, vice chairman of Pringle. “We needed someone who absolutely understands the marketplace….And Sanyo Shokai is, bar none, the best operator in Japan.”

Fang added that Asia in general represents only a small portion of Pringle’s total business, but he hopes the new line will help the company gain more traction in the region. “We’ve always been big believers that to find success in the East, you must have success in the West,” he said.

Pringle 1815 is set to hit stores in February, and will initially be available at about 10 different retail outlets, mainly department stores.
