JOYEUX ANNIVERSAIRE: Printemps is kicking off its 150th anniversary celebrations today with a giant cake.

Visitors to the department store chain’s Paris flagship will be able to decorate cupcakes that will make up the birthday cake, to be unveiled by Printemps chief executive officer Paolo de Cesare and chef Christian Constant in the auditorium of the Boulevard Haussmann store.

Shoppers will also be able to pose with Rose, a mascot created by Japanese artist Hiroshi Yoshii for the anniversary.

The event marks the beginning of the store’s yearlong celebrations, which start officially on March 20, the first day of spring. The façade of the store will be bathed in its signature pink, thanks to a floral décor that will incorporate 5,500 artificial flowers, including roses, cherry blossoms and hydrangeas.

The retailer has invited 11 artists from France and abroad to create window displays with a floral theme. Food carts in front of the store will serve snacks including waffles from Les Oublieurs and ice cream and sorbets from Glazed.

Some 400 brands have created 1,000 exclusive products for the occasion, including Ralph Lauren, Givenchy, Alberta Ferretti and Nina Ricci. Concept store Maria Luisa will sell a capsule collection of Printemps clothing for women and men with prices ranging from 30 euros, or $31 at current exchange, for a small clutch to 195 euros, or $205, for a coat.
