RE/DUN COMES EAST: Re/dun, the Los Angeles-based denim brand launched online in July by Sean Barron and Jamie Mazur, has made its first move into brick-and-mortar with a Manhattan pop-up shop. The brand, which designs women’s jeans out of reclaimed vintage Levi’s sourced all over the U.S., opened shop on Tuesday night at NoLIta boutique Warm with a launch party hosted by the artist Petra Collins. Re/dun currently offers women’s jeans in two styles — straight skinny and relaxed — and releases them online in limited quantities (Barron said the waitlist is currently at 800 people.)
Mazur, a longtime entrepreneur and the fiancé of Alessandra Ambrosio, said he’d always been a collector of antiques, vintage watches and old cars. He said the idea for Re/dun grew out of this obsession with vintage; Mazur and Barron wanted to launch a brand online that would simplify the process of buying vintage denim and then having to get it tailored. But in terms of transforming vintage Levi’s into Re/dun jeans, it’s not just a tweak here or a stitch there.
“Imagine it like Frankenstein,” Barron said. “We take them totally apart and put them back together.”
New York shoppers will be able to grab a pair at the store until the pop-up closes on Dec. 15.
