HOOK ME UP: Gaia Repossi is joining forces with art mogul Larry Gagosian for the presentation of her new jewelry collection during Paris Fashion Week.
The Agrafe collection, which borrows its name from the French word for “staple,” will be unveiled on Sunday at Gallery Gagosian in Le Bourget, on the northern outskirts of Paris. The space is hosting an exhibition by Sterling Ruby that will serve as a backdrop to the collection, which has a stark industrial feel.
In an exclusive preview at her headquarters on Rue Saint-Honoré, the creative director of the Repossi house said the collection was born out of a magazine-related collaboration with her boyfriend, artist Jeremy Everett.
“We were asked by Fantastic Man to produce an earring for men,” she said. “The only man I had around was my boyfriend and he has a big scar on his ear, so he said, ‘Why don’t you do something around stitches or staples?’”
The earrings are hooked at the ends and clip on to form a diagonal line across the ear. “It creates a perfect line with the jaw,” Repossi noted. They are available in black gold, pink gold and yellow gold, some set with diamonds, and also in a crossed style.
A teaser image of the design can be seen on model Julia Nobis in the brand’s spring campaign shot by David Sims.
Repossi, who recently sold a minority stake in the company to luxury conglomerate LVMH, said she was thrilled to be able to showcase the pieces in Gagosian’s expansive space, though she stressed it was not a collaboration with Ruby, who is a personal friend.
“I love collaborations, but what I do is not art. What we’ll do tomorrow is a presentation, not an art show,” she said. “I love the space, just how raw it is, and I’ve always dreamt to do something there.”
Her next big project is the opening of Repossi’s renovated flagship on Place Vendôme, now slated for late April. She plans to host an event during Paris Couture Week in July to officially inaugurate the Rem Koolhaas-designed boutique.
