RING MY BELL: Decked in a Santa-inspired marabou-trimmed rubber bra and matching skater skirt, Rita Ora hams up a version of “Jingle Bell Rock” for Love magazine’s annual Advent calendar — but quickly lets her true talent shine when things go wrong.
Ora, currently a judge on The X Factor, lip syncs and dances to the version from the 2004 film “Mean Girls” in a black and white video directed by Sam Faulkner, released on Saturday.
The video features Ora and a vintage boom box blasting out the song. When it breaks, she finishes it a cappella in her unmistakable raspy voice, dancing around in paisley appliqué stiletto sandals by Giuseppe Zanotti.
Love editor in chief Katie Grand said she’d always wanted to do a pastiche of “Jingle Bell Rock” and last year had asked Lindsay Lohan to do it, but no one could find a boom box that morning, so it never happened.
“This year, Rita agreed to take part in the calendar and she did the song in one take — she was really good,” said Grand.
After Ora finishes singing, she lifts up her skirt, flashes her underwear and tosses down her Santa hat. All in a day’s work.
According to Grand, the daily videos are less about Christmas — and more about the fertile imaginations of those involved. “Pam Anderson wanted to do a B-movie and wear a big, black beehive wig,” said Grand. “Kendall wearing a shark’s outfit was an obsession of mine.”
Unlike most Advent calendars, Love Video Advent 2015 lasts for all 31 days of December. “It’s not very religious in theme, so I thought it would be more appropriate to do the whole month rather than 24 days,” said Grand.
