RODARTE’S NEW SPECS: Consumers won’t have to wait long to buy a pair of Oliver Peoples’ latest collaboration — the sunglasses that walked down Rodarte’s runway Tuesday. Instead of coming to market when spring deliveries hit stores in early 2015, the subtle cat-eye frame will hit the eyewear brand’s retail boutiques in New York and Los Angeles today. The limited-edition frames — 100 pieces were produced — will retail for $425 and come in five colorways, including black with an iridescent ivory shell and black with a silver shell. “[They] knew exactly what they wanted — there is a reason they are who they are,” said Oliver Peoples chief executive officer David Schulte, who became friends with Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy within the small fashion community of Los Angeles, where both brands are based. This is not the first time the two parties have worked together: They partnered on a runway-only optical frame to complement Rodarte’s fall 2014 collection in February. Never intended to be produced or sold, the positive response from the initial optical frame resulted in the release of today’s sunglasses.
