DIAL R FOR REALITY: Rodial Skincare founder Maria Hatzistefanis launched a student talent search earlier this year, and has spun it into a YouTube reality show that will air on Jan. 7 on the Mrs Rodial YouTube Channel.

A trailer will be released today.

Earlier this year, Hatzistefanis challenged 25 BA (Hons) Product Design students from Central Saint Martins in London to create an inspired makeup brush case for the brand’s six best-selling brushes. The students were encouraged to be as imaginative as possible and to create a functional piece of art.

The winner was Aaron Chung, whose design was sold at the Rodial concession in Harvey Nichols in London. His design allows the user to customize its size when they’re on the move.

The company describes the Mrs Rodial Project as a “Project Runway”-style docu-series, featuring cameo appearances from Erin O’Connor and designer Henry Holland.

The eight dramatic episodes, narrated by Hatzistefanis, culminate with a panel of judges revealing the winner of the Rodial Art & Design Challenge 2015.

Earlier this year, Rodial and Central Saint Martins hosted a dinner at Balthazar to celebrate the contest.

“Galliano, McQueen and Stella McCartney all graduated from Central Saint Martins, so I knew we’d find some great raw talent,” Hatzistefanis told WWD earlier this year. “It was important what they created was not only beautiful and useful, but also that it was commercially viable.”

Chung said the news was a shock, as he was the only male out of the 25 candidates. “It was my first time designing a woman’s product and I didn’t know anything about the makeup industry before so I had to do a lot of research.”
