SEACREST IN THE WINDOW: Ryan Seacrest is much better than a mannequin. On Monday, the celebrity host stepped into the windows at Macy’s Herald Square to host his radio show and create some buzz for the official launch of his Ryan Seacrest Distinction men’s wear collection.
“This is the first time in a decade that we’ve broadcast from anywhere other than a studio,” he told WWD at a photo opp on the store’s third floor Monday afternoon. He joked that the fans who came by on the street were “well-mannered” and didn’t disrupt the show. But they did seem to appreciate when Nick Jonas popped by and was cajoled into changing into a Ryan Seacrest Distinction shirt out in the open, he said.
Seacrest, who has been on a media blitz to promote the Macy’s exclusive collection for the past several weeks, said the publicity has been “going well. I couldn’t be happier with the quality of the suits and accessories,” he said.
He said he’ll wear one of the line’s tuxedos to open the show as he takes to the stage at the Barclays Center on Tuesday night as the host of Fashion Rocks. “Then I’ll change into a suit,” he said.
Seacrest said the Distinction launch and the rehearsals for Fashion Rocks have chewed up his time in New York and he hasn’t been able to attend any of the shows during Fashion Week. But he’s OK with that and is more consumed with making his own line a success. “It’s been a phenomenal marriage so far,” he said.
Macy’s chairman and chief executive officer Terry Lundgren agreed. “I love it because it’s selling like crazy,” he said. “And as a retailer, that’s my primary objective in life.”
He added that Macy’s is “proud of the association and Ryan’s incredible involvement in the design, detail and focus on the customer. In collaboration with our team, they’ve created some special product.”
And during this week where fashion is taking center stage, Lundgren said having Macy’s newest celebrity partner on stage in the merchandise at the “biggest entertainment show of the year,” is a bonus. Macy’s is the sponsor of Fashion Rocks and will provide all the fashion for the event, Lundgren said.
