THAT SINKING FEELING: Guests at the Sergio Rossi party, held at the spectacular Palazzo Cicogna in Milan on Thursday night, had a choice between walking on gravel or sinking into damp grass — neither particularly heel-friendly options.

“I know,” Sergio Rossi collection director Angelo Ruggeri said with a shrug. “The idea of the garden party is because we want to recreate the atmosphere of the end of summer party, because this week is like the end of summer — very relaxed, very glamorous.”

Under a full moon, guests lounged in deck chairs and enjoyed a live performance by retro chanteuse Nina Zilli. Inside, shoes were displayed in the palace’s lavish reception rooms, which had been appointed with vintage furniture by designers including Paul Evans and Gio Ponti.

The venue was dotted with shoes culled from the spring 2014 collection, inspired by the jet-set lifestyle of the early Seventies, alongside Ruggeri’s capsule collection paying tribute to the work of Milanese designer Gabriella Crespi, which will hit stores in December.
