SHOWING OFF: SHOWstudio is working with the soon-to-open Miami Beach Edition hotel on a series of filmed interviews set to take place during Art Basel next month. Carrie E. A. Scott, the curator, director and art writer, will conduct interviews inside the hotel’s new bungalows with figures from the fine art, fashion and film industries. Details of the interviewees are still being confirmed.
The Miami Beach Edition is Ian Schrager’s first foray into the city since the launch of the Delano 17 years ago. Designed by Yabu Pushelberg, the hotel is located in a Fifties landmark building at 2901 Collins Avenue. It has 294 rooms and bungalows, a spa, bowling alley, and nightclub. The hotel, latest in a series created by Schrager and Marriott, is set to open Dec. 1, and the interviews will take place that week. The first interview in the series will premiere on Dec. 4 on SHOWstudio.

Known as “In Your Face,” the interview series is meant to capture a “living portrait” of the subject. Nick Knight, photographer, filmmaker and founder of SHOWstudio, trains his camera on the subject’s face, which fills the screen. “I was always impressed by the directness of the interviews on the BBC in the 1960s,” said Knight. “They were informed and intelligent and they asked difficult questions. Their visual delivery was as straightforward as the questions. In this series of interviews I wanted to take that directness further.” Past “In Your Face” subjects include Bernard Henri Levy, Dinos Chapman, Yoko Ono and Vito Acconci.
