MR. AND MISSES SMYTHE: Toronto-based label Smythe hosted a dinner at Soho House West Hollywood Thursday night, where co-designers Andrea Lenczner and Christie Smythe made a long overdue visit to Los Angeles. “We haven’t been here since the late Nineties,” said Lenczner, a former Holt-Renfrew buyer who started the line with Smythe, a former GAP designer, nine years ago. The designers hadn’t even met met their U.S. publicist face-to-face before the trip, so it wasn’t surprising that actresses Sophia Bush, Michelle Trachtenberg and Amber Heard were also new acquaintances. “It’s so funny that we go to these things,” mused Heard, who brought her father and sister along. “Wait, this is a fashion dinner?” he asked on the way in. “I forgot to tell him that, but now that he’s seen it’s all women, he’s grinning ear-to-ear,” said Heard. The line, known for its tailored blazers, recently added bottoms and sells in 100 doors in North America including Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom locations. Lenczner said the company has no plans to open a retail store or take on investors. “I did a stint in investment banking so I know what doing that entails. We’re in love with our independence.”
