LONDON — The British label Sophia Webster was awarded the annual British Fashion Council/Vogue Fashion Fund prize on Tuesday night during an event held at London’s Bulgari Hotel. The designer will receive 200,000 pounds, or $285,000 at current exchange, to invest in the business and will also get 12 months of mentoring support.
Osman, Emilia Wickstead, Mother of Pearl and Prism were among the other nominees. The designers showcased looks from their spring lines to the judging panel, which included Alexandra Shulman, Victoria Beckham, Joan Burstein and Samantha Cameron. They also presented an international business plan and their journey was documented in a video series published on the British Vogue Web site, and on the British Fashion Council’s channel on YouTube.
Launched in 2009, the fund is sponsored by Vogue, Burberry, Topshop, Harrods and Paul Smith. This is the seventh year of the awards, with previous recipients including Mary Katrantzou, Peter Pilotto, Erdem, Nicholas Kirkwood and Christopher Kane.
