SPEAKING OF HAIDER: Saks Fifth Avenue toasted Haider Ackermann on Thursday evening in Beverly Hills with what was billed as a strolling supper at Mr. Chow, but it was virtually impossible to stroll through the teeming crowd, which included hosts Rochelle Gores Fredston, Angelique Soave and Mary Alice Haney Davidov, as well as China Chow, Cameron Silver, Juan Carlos Obando, Janie Bryant, Minnie Mortimer and Kendall Conrad. Ackermann, who has shied away from social media, admitted to a secret fascination with Instagram. “Apparently, there are some beautiful pictures on it. That’s what I’ve heard. I would love to be the voyeur and look at it without putting my name on it,” he said.
Ackermann has also largely avoided Los Angeles’ favorite fashion pastime — red-carpet dressing — but he copped to checking out red-carpet outfits. “When you do red-carpet stories, I find it much more beautiful when you create a story with an actress. It’s about communication. It’s about collaboration. Perhaps I’m too old fashion, but I love to construct something with someone,” he said. “Nevertheless, I do always like the red carpet. I always enjoy looking at it.”
