FLOWER POWER: Fashion and flowers were the chatter at a cocktail in Paris Monday night to fete the second collaborative fragrance created by Stephen Jones and Comme des Garçons Parfums, called Wisteria Hysteria.

“I have a huge wisteria hanging outside my house,” said Jones, who explained its flowers in August give off “the most amazing kind of carnation peppery scent; that was what [the fragrance] was really based on.”

In tandem with the launch, Comme des Garçons’ Trading Museum in Paris is for a month showcasing 14 of Jones’ white archive hats. The oldest dates back to 1985, the first season Jones worked with Rei Kawakubo.

“I wanted to pick white hats from the past linked to white flowers,” he said, adding with a laugh: “And actually, there are no white floral hats in the display. The thing is, the white florals don’t actually stay very white for that long in a hat.”

Since a teenager, Walter Van Beirendonck has sported Caron’s Yatagan, calling it “my all-time favorite.”

“I use a very classic fragrance, which is Jicky by Guerlain,” said Schiaparelli designer Marco Zanini. “It’s the oldest of the old, and I love that kind of classic quality to it.”

Henry Pincus, who created the two-minute, in-store film for Wisteria Hysteria, said he doesn’t wear fragrance, but that if he did it would probably have “a little bit of something metallic about it — something that felt like it had some edge.”

So what were guests’ favorite flower types? It’s black iris for An Vandervorst.

“I am always a sucker for peonies,” said Dan Thawley.

Jones’ first, signature fragrance with Comme des Garçons came out six years ago.

Wisteria Hysteria is available in Comme des Garçons shops and Jones’ London millinery shop. It will be launched in all of Comme des Garçons’ sales points worldwide starting April 21.
