Adam Gopnik, Kyle MacLachlan and author Colum McCann recounted stories of fatherhood Monday night at literary organization The Moth’s fundraiser which was sponsored by Cole Haan and benefited Common Cents, a kid-driven organization that collects loose change for charity. McLachlan told the crowd gathered at City Winery about touring his winery in Walla Walla, Wash. with his dad, while McCann remembered the singular time he visited his grandfather in the U.K. Gopnik got lots of laughs talking about how he and his teenage son communicate almost exclusively via instant-messaging—even when they’re in the same house. It’s proven a learning experience for the New Yorker writer who learned a little too late that LOL stands for “laughing out loud,” not “lots of love.”
