CREATIVE UNION: A mutual love for contemporary art brought Stylebop.com founders Mario and Thorsten Eimuth and Cada’s Herbert and Annette Kopp together. The result is a 52-piece fine jewelry collection that launched on Stylebop.com today, designed by contemporary artists whom the two couples have always been drawn to.
As a jeweler and art collector, Herbert Kopp has always wanted to work on a project in the realm of artist jewelry. He brought forward three artists — Aaron Curry, Jonathan Meese and Andy Hope — whose work he has been following and collecting over the past 40 years.
An admirer of jewelry produced by artists himself, Curry jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with the online retailer. “I am a huge fan of jewelry by Salvador Dalí, Dieter Roth and Alexander Calder. This project was an exciting opportunity to try it for myself and have my work viewed by a different audience. I didn’t think of the process as any different, and approached it exactly the same as I do any of my sculptures. It was just a matter of working on a different scale, surface, and with different materials,” said Curry.
As collectors of contemporary art, Mario and Thorsten Eimuth found a synergy working with Kopp on approaching the artists.
“These three artists were always at the top of our list for the project. I own several pieces by Aaron Curry in my personal collection and Herbert and Annette have long-standing relationships with all of them, so we approached each of them organically with the concept. We hoped it could provide an interesting challenge artistically and offer them another creative outlet,” said Mario Eimuth.
Fine jewelry has grown to become a key category for the e-tailer, following its launch in 2013. “We have watched the category go from strength to strength ever since the launch and fine jewelry has played a key role in the evolution of our customers. Its success underscored the profound impact e-commerce has had on all luxury sectors,” said Eimuth.
The collection, which includes a selection of rings, necklaces and bracelets in rose-gold, gold and silver, is priced between 5,000 pounds, or $7,500 at current exchange, to 120,000 pounds, or $180,000.
