SLOW BUT STEADY: Ted Baker’s founder and chief executive Ray Kelvin made a rare trip to Tokyo and put in an appearance at a presentation of the brand’s spring collection on Tuesday. In between schmoozing with buyers and members of the press, he mentioned that the Ted Baker business has been slow to take off in Japan, where it opened its first and only store in Tokyo last year. Since then, the only other Japanese store to carry the brand has been the Tokyu department store in Shibuya. But Kelvin said things are finally starting to pick up, and he has had interest from department stores including Takashimaya, which may begin carrying the brand from next spring. “We’re looking very much forward to taking Japan by storm and really looking after our partners and all the beautiful people that are going to wear Ted Baker,” Kelvin said.
