SPECIAL GUEST: International VIPS are a rare species at Tokyo fashion week but Tilda Swinton and Haider Ackermann hit the front row of the Hanae Mori Designed by Yu Amatsu show on Monday. Swinton appears in campaigns by fashion week sponsor Mercedes Benz. Both celebs shunned requests for interviews before the show but Swinton briefly offered up her thoughts on Japanese fashion when addressing a scrum of Japanese reporters post show. She said the work of Yohji Yamamoto and Issey Miyake and as well as Kansai Yamamoto’s costumes for David Bowie helped her learn “a visual language” as a late teen. “Whatever is being expressed, whether it’s a kind of internal energy or something external, there’s an expressiveness,” she said of Japanese designers.
