TO TOKYO, WITH LOVE: Rebecca Minkoff hosted a Girls Night Out event, right before Hurricane Sandy swept the East Coast. But the event took place far from home at her 3,000-square-foot Ginza store in Tokyo, complete with a singing bartender and custom nail art in Minkoff’s fall and resort prints. Minkoff flew to Japan to celebrate her Ginza store that opened in March, and the opening of her new 1,000-square-foot store in Nagoya.

Minkoff has been expanding her business throughout Japan. This fall, she opened four shop-in-shops and one more is set to open next month in Osaka. In addition, the firm has opened five pop-up shop locations in Shibuya Seibu, Isetan Kyoto, Ikebukuro Tobu, Isetan Shinjuku and Nagoya Takashimaya.

Uri Minkoff, chief executive officer of Minkoff, said the Rebecca Minkoff Collection is also headed to Lane Crawford in Hong Kong, and the handbags will be carried in Lane Crawford’s Lab Concept. In addition, the designer is selling at Rustan’s in the Philippines and Tangs in Singapore. Elsewhere, Minkoff has also begun distribution at Selfridges and Harrods in the U.K., as well as Galeries Lafayette in Indonesia and Harvey Nichols in Kuwait. In total, Minkoff sells at more than 150 doors outside the U.S. in 30 countries.

Next up for Minkoff? A freestanding store closer to home at 96 Greene Street, that opens in August.
