FORD TO VENICE: Tom Ford’s movie, “A Single Man,” starring Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode and Nicholas Hoult, will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 11. It is slated to be the final film screened in the main competition. Ford directed the movie, based on the novel of the same name by Christopher Isherwood, as well as coproduced and cowrote the adaptation. Set in Los Angeles in 1962 at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, it is the story of a British college professor struggling after the death of his longtime partner. “The story is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life,” said Ford’s production company, Fade to Black. Ford said the selection by the prestigious festival was “a great honor.”
STARS IN THEIR EYES: Michael Kors, Gucci’s Frida Giannini, Dior Joaillerie’s Victoire de Castellane and milliner Stephen Jones will be the fashion ‘Star’ honorees at The Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars in October. Other honorees will include Coty Prestige’s Catherine Walsh in the beauty category and the Clodagh firm for architecture. Diesel’s Renzo Rosso will take home the event’s corporate leadership award, while Kenneth Cole will be given the organization’s Humanitarian Award. The Lord & Taylor Fashion Oracle Award, meanwhile, will go to Bravo, with Frances Berwick and Andy Cohen accepting it on behalf of the network. “This year, we are celebrating a wide range of unique and accomplished talents who have created fascinating narratives for their brand,” Margaret Hayes, president of The Fashion Group International, said. “All the honorees have captured the imagination of their customers and given them compelling reasons to remain faithful to them.”
As reported, the Oct. 22 event will be themed “The Storytellers,” and Oscar de la Renta is being given the night’s Superstar Award.
