CHANGING PLACES: Turkish men’s wear designer Umit Benan announced via Instagram and Twitter that he would show his fall-winter 2014 men’s wear collection during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris. The runway show is to take place on Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. at an undisclosed location.

Previously, the designer, who in 2009 won the first edition of the men’s wear version of Italy’s “Who’s On Next” award for emerging designers, had presented his collections in Milan. Benan made a name for himself with his sophisticated collections of impeccable tailored pieces with a quirky, contemporary twist.

“I’m so excited. I really want to get out of my comfort zone. I know that when you change, it’s always hard, it’s risky, but it’s fresh,” said Benan, who also designed Trussardi men’s and women’s collections from June 2011 to February 2013. “I felt stuck in Milan and I realized that to grow the company and take the next step I had to be in a more multicultural and international environment.”

Starting from the next season, Benan will also bring distribution back in-house. The fall-winter 2014 collection will be wholesaled from the brand’s private showroom in Paris’ Marais neighborhood.

The designer also said that for the moment he would keep the company’s headquarters in Milan, but that he might relocate to Paris. “I’ve always liked the idea of being new in a city and being able to discover it day by day.”
