SWITCH OVER: Donna Karan’s fans are in luck. The designer’s in-store boutique on the sixth floor at Bergdorf Goodman, which is currently selling her final resort collection, will be switching over to an Urban Zen shop in mid-March, according to a Bergdorf’s spokeswoman. Urban Zen, designed by Karan, is her luxury sportswear collection. The collection is currently sold in Urban Zen free-standing boutiques in New York, Sag Harbor, N.Y. and Aspen, as well as online.
Urban Zen is wholesaled at such retailers as Hirshleifers, Manhasset; A’maree’s, Newport Beach; Choices, Pittsburgh; Joan Shepp, Philadelphia; Susan of Burlingame; Gus Mayer of Nashville and Birmingham; Neapolitan in Winnetka, Ill.; Gilda’s, Newton Mass., and Trois Pommes in Switzerland.
Urban Zen is a stand-alone company owned by Karan herself. The collection features seasonless basics in a neutral color palette and jewelry, accessories and home decor handmade by artisans employed by Urban Zen. Many of the items are made in Haiti, Thailand and Bali. Part of the money made goes to the company’s philanthropic efforts.
