HIGH NOTES: Commencing with a “Bonsoir, Karl” in her signature breathy voice, singer Vanessa Paradis performed a private concert for friends of the house of Chanel, including the couturier Karl Lagerfeld, at Paris’s Trianon on Wednesday night, crooning a mix of her greatest hits such as “Joe le Taxi” and “Divine Idylle” along with new numbers, among them a soulful version of “La Chanson des Vieux Cons.”
“We have travelled so much together, it’s a real pleasure to play for you tonight,” she said, dressed in Chanel from head to toe.
Paradis first wore a sparkling ensemble of an embroidered T-shirt and matching skirt from Chanel’s spring couture collection, before slipping into a flowing, folklore-inspired gown, which she spotted at the house’s cruise collection in Dubai two months ago. “They are made for the stage,” she gushed about the resort’s outfits then, sitting front row.
The translucent dress with cape-like layers turned out to be the perfect match to her stage set, which included videos of Sarah Bernhardt’s expressive dance moves duly followed by Paradis as she sang her hit “Natural High.” It resonated well with the audience, including Anna Mouglalis, Alice Dellal, Gwei Lun-Mei, Clara Paget, Louise Grinberg and Harumi Klossowski.
