WHITE RIBBON DAY: British designer Stella McCartney has designed a virtual white ribbon badge to raise awareness for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on Nov. 25. The symbol, due to be unveiled today, will serve as the centerpiece of a two-week campaign to run on the Facebook and Twitter pages of McCartney and other PPR brands, which range from luxury label Gucci to sporting goods maker Puma.
“Stella suggested revisiting the ribbon in order to publicize this date, which is not necessarily well-known by the general public,” said Céline Bonnaire, executive director of the PPR Foundation for Women’s Dignity and Rights.

The white ribbon badge will also be displayed on PPR’s corporate Web site and its Facebook page, also to be launched today, in addition to the foundation’s corporate Web site and Twitter account. Users will be able to share the badge and matching banners via the microsite twibbon.com/support/white-ribbon-for-women-3.
McCartney sits on the board of the foundation, which fights violence against women, and promotes women’s empowerment by supporting nongovernmental organizations and social entrepreneurs and financing awareness campaigns.
Among its other initiatives this year, it has helped to finance an advertising campaign marking the 20th anniversary of a domestic abuse help line run by France’s National Federation of Women’s Solidarity.
