VINTAGE ONLINE: Couture connoisseur William Banks-Blaney has made a big digital move with his label William Vintage, and will as of today begin selling his finds worldwide through the brand’s new Web site.
“We have always intended to launch William Vintage online,” Banks-Blaney told WWD. “I had always felt that vintage clothing offered so much for the contemporary woman, but it was not represented well. We will now have both a unique store in central London and also the online platform. The site will be packed full of amazing vintage clothing, from Twenties Poiret and Fifties Dior to Sixties Courrèges and Nineties Mugler, Saint Laurent and Versace.
Williamvintage.com offers more than 1,000 couture pieces from the Twenties to the Nineties including coats, dresses and gowns from Balmain, Balenciaga, Chanel, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Grès, Halston, Alexander McQueen, Thierry Mugler, Poiret, Schiaparelli and Yves Saint Laurent.
Prices range from 175 pounds, or $255, for a maxiskirt circa 1965, to 24,975 pounds, or $36,347, for a Bob Mackie couture crystal dress.
The Web site also features film content, a style icon page that focuses on 20th-century fashion figures and a guest influencer edit page where famous names select their top picks from the site. Rachel Zoe has been confirmed as the first guest. The site offers global shipping and a full returns policy.
“We first bonded when she came to the store,” he told WWD last year. “She was recommended to visit me by a friend, and we bonded over a 1959 Yves Saint Laurent vintage dress. Rachel walked into the store and that’s the first thing her eyes went to, and we became kindred spirits.”
Launched in 2009 by Banks-Blaney, the label has an appointment-only store in London and counts on Tilda Swinton, Amal Clooney, Victoria Beckham, Rachel Zoe, Rihanna and Kate Moss as clients.
