LONDON — The Woolmark Co. has announced the nominees from British Isles for its International Woolmark Prize on Tuesday. For the women’s wear category, designers nominated include Ryan Lo, Danielle Romeril, Faustine Steinmetz and Ashley Williams. For men’s wear, they are Baartmans & Siegel, Cottweiler, Craig Green and Liam Hodges.
The British Isles was the sixth region added to the competition last year and the regional award ceremony will take place on July 5 at the Australian High Commission in London. The designers are to showcase one look in merino wool and a six-piece capsule range. The panel that selected the nominees include fashion director of Stylist Magazine Alexandra Fullerton, fashion writer Colin McDowell, and representatives from Matchesfashion.com and Harvey Nichols.
Six regional competitions will be held in June and July in Hong Kong, Sydney, Milan, London, New York and Mumbai. Twelve finalists will be awarded 50,000 Australian dollars, or $38,265 at current exchange, and an opportunity to participate in the international finals. The winners of the final round of the men’s wear and women’s wear finals will receive 100,000 Australian dollars, or $76,537 at current exchange, for their brand. They will also receive business mentoring and will have their label distributed by participating retailers.
