BIG HITTERS: The World Retail Congress today announced the retail and fashion names that will be inducted into its World Retail Hall of Fame for 2012.


They are: Lew Frankfort, chairman and chief executive officer of Coach Inc.; Dickson Poon, chairman of Dickson Concepts and the owner of Harvey Nichols; Sir Stuart Rose, the former chairman of Marks & Spencer, and designer Sir Paul Smith.


Frankfort said of the award: “This recognition reflects the accomplishments of the entire Coach team and the enduring strength of the Coach brand around the world.”

Rose, meanwhile, said in a statement: “Retailing has been my life, and I can’t imagine being in any other industry … it is therefore a great honor to be recognized by my fellow retailers with membership of the World Retail Hall of Fame for a career that I have thoroughly enjoyed and continue to enjoy, in my roles in the businesses I am now involved with.”


All four individuals will be honored at a World Retail Hall of Fame lunch held in London during the World Retail Congress’ annual summit, which runs from Sept. 19 through 21.


Ian McGarrigle, chairman of the WRC, said: “This year’s inductees are without doubt leading names in the retail world, and we are delighted to be able to honor them with membership at this year’s congress in London.”
