LONDON — Buyers were buzzing this season about the London Fashion Week collections, and pointed to lace, ruffles, a play on volume and proportion, a Seventies feel, and prints, as some of the key trends of the season.
Alexandra Stylianidis, head of buying for women’s and accessories at Liberty named blue – especially cornflower blue – as a major color. “It’s a beauty of a color to wear and great on all skin tones so we expect it to market well.” She also said monochrome dressing and Seventies feel was all over the runways.
“With so many designers nodding towards the Seventies in their collections this season you will find it hard to avoid a mid-length pleated skirt or high-waisted trouser this season. Peter Pilotto took us back to the heady days of Yves Saint Laurent and Richard Nicoll gave us pleats and capes to match,” she said.
Colleen Sherin, meanwhile, fashion market director at Saks Fifth Avenue, said London continues to offer innovation in terms of print direction.
She pointed to trends including “a strong use of bright color, including neon.” She also named fringe, pleats, lace, metallic leather, and sheer flowing fabric panels as other trends.
Meanwhile, Nicole Fischelis, group vice-president and fashion director at Macy’s, pointed to trends such as a play on proportions, transparencies, lace and ruffles, and flirty skirts. “London continues to bring wit and imagination to the world of fashion,” she said.
