Some bold patterns look great on the runway but don’t transition well to real life. Valentino’s Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli seem to have found the sweet spot: Their flamboyant, Sixties-inspired graphic floral from spring looks as fabulous coming and going at chic events as it did in the show. For fall, the designers worked intense surface interest in numerous ways, including foulard-printed leather, as on this dress. Its moody charm should translate as well as its perkier spring sister.
