European trade show giant Eurovet has acquired a 30 percent stake in innerwear trade show CurvExpo, leading to rival Lingerie Americas to announce on Friday it will cease operations.

The move will take some pressure off vendors who have been torn over which show they should exhibit at and for retailers who were spending additional time and money to attend both events, which were often scheduled simultaneously in New York and Las Vegas.

Marie-Laure Bellon Homps, chief executive officer of the Paris-based Eurovet, said, “Leveraging market knowledge and a customer base gives Eurovet the opportunity to create the most powerful lingerie and swimwear trade show company in the world.”

Eurovet produces four major lingerie, swimwear and textiles trade fairs in France and Asia: the Salon International de la Lingerie and Interfilière, and the Mode City and Interfilière shows in Paris, and the Hong Kong Mode Lingerie and Shanghai Mode Lingerie exhibitions.

Officials at Lingerie Americas could not be reached, but in a statement said, “Lingerie Americas has decided to stop its activity.”

“Thanks to Eurovet’s leadership in Europe and its unique sourcing trade shows in Asia, Eurovet is the ideal partner for CurvExpo,” said Jean-Luc Teinturier, president and ceo of CurvExpo. “It gives brands and retailers access to the best sourcing opportunities and opens up potentially new markets. The alliance with Eurovet will help CurvExpo to offer improved services to exhibitors and their brands.”

Laurence Teinturier, CurvExpo’s executive vice president, said, “It’s good news for the industry because we’ll improve the show’s format and share a wealth of expertise with Eurovet.”

She added that one of the “top priorities” at the two upcoming fairs in February will focus on growing the representation of men’s underwear and innerwear brands, a category she believes has “great potential.”

“At our CurvExpo show in Las Vegas in August we had 20 men’s resources and in February we have signed up 30 so far,” she said. “Las Vegas is very important for the category because of the MAGIC show.”

The CurvExpo Las Vegas shows are scheduled for Feb. 16 to 18, and Aug. 31 to Sept. 1 at the Venetian Resort Hotel. The CurvExpo New York venues are set for Feb. 22 to 24 and Aug. 2 to 3 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
