Sharp has linked up with SoulCycle, the boutique indoor cycling studio, to design a limited-edition, post-workout collection called Ramy Brook for SoulCycle. The six-piece line will hit SoulCycle studios on May 24 and will be sold on the SoulCycle and Ramy Brook Web sites through Labor Day.
This new collection is an addition to the 14 private-label lines a year SoulCycle already produces, which include activewear and to-and-from items. SoulCycle also does collaborations with Jonathan Adler and Shopbop.
Sharp said she’s been exercising at SoulCycle for more than seven years and goes there at least five times a week.
“I would bring clothing to change into after I worked out, and the owners, Julie [Rice] and Elizabeth [Cutler] loved the way I would finish working out and put on my clothes to go out for the day and do my errands,” said Sharp. In the summertime, she’d throw on a cotton dress or shorts and bring a necklace with her “and you’d never know I’d just finished spinning,” she said.
Sharp started talking with the SoulCycle cofounders last summer and they decided that she would design styles women could wear to and from the studio. Rice and Cutler wanted to do everything in gray and white. Every piece has something SoulCycle related on it, such as a wheel or a skull, or both. The collection, which retails from $98 to $155, includes a dress; a pair of shorts; a pair of pants, and three tops (sleeveless, short sleeve and long sleeve). One shirt style, for example, is solid in the front and has a crisscross design in the back. Depending on the style, they are a mix of rayon, linen, Modal, polyester and spandex. Everything is manufactured in Los Angeles. Volume projections for the limited-edition collection weren’t divulged.
Rice said they decided to collaborate with Sharp because “Ramy is a huge fan of SoulCycle and we are fans of her clothing line; her designs are fun, sexy and easy to wear — perfect for summer.”
The Ramy Brook for SoulCycle collection will be available at seven SoulCycle studios: in Greenwich, Conn.; Bridgehampton, N.Y.; East Hampton, N.Y.; Water Mill, N.Y.; Roslyn, N.Y.; 1470 Third Avenue in Manhattan, and Short Hills, N.J.
Launch events for the Ramy Brook for SoulCycle collection include a blogger-editor ride at SoulCycle’s studio in New York’s West Village, which took place on Tuesday, and events at the Bridgehampton and East Hampton studios over Memorial Day weekend.
Asked whether the collaboration would continue beyond the one season, Rice responded: “For now it’s a limited-edition collection — it keeps it really special.”
Sharp said she’s also in discussions with a major department store about doing a post-workout line. That will probably be available for fall or holiday, but she declined to name the retailer since it’s not yet confirmed.
