After weeks of contradictory rumors about the show’s fate, chief executive officer and founder Karl-Heinz Müller sent out a brief note Tuesday saying the fair will “skip” the next season.
Müller acknowledged that Bread & Butter was not able to convince a sufficient number of exhibitors to participate, “partly due to self-precipitated turbulence.”
Known as a pioneer in Germany and Berlin’s trade-fair scene and an audacious innovator, Müller hinted the announcement might not mean the fair’s end. He noted that the market has changed and needs to be addressed in a new way: “Maybe something great has to end in order for something new to happen,” he said.
The note acknowledged the fair’s long-term partners, and the cities of Berlin and Barcelona, and ended with a quote from the Pink Panther: “Today is not all days; I’ll be back, that’s for sure.”
